Painting up a new team: Morticians - BoneSaw Part I and way of the brush love
Hello Guild Ballers!
As I'm looking to get more guilds on the table under my command I have been looking around to what team should be the first to moan under the weight of me... I have two eyes and so each eye started looking at a certain team making me crosseyed and leaving me puzzled. Those two teams are The Masons and the Morticians. Since I'm a slow painter I bought a Masons team second hand a while back. Read up on that here.
The other team, the morticians, only caught my eye after the spoiling of Scalpel. I loved how the model looked and somehow the card appealed to me. I placed an order in my local games store and as the team didn't come in straight away started looking for ideas on how to paint them. I came up empty handed until a local posted on the forums of my gaming club (warning: DUTCH).
This is what she linked me to: monochrome morticians.
I liked the theme so much I decided to borrow it. Here are the steps I took my first model -Bonesaw- through:
1) After priming it white, giving the clothes a base layer and the eyes and lips some shading:
2) I wanted the muscles to stand out from the white as much as possible and went a bit overboard in my next step: a base coat over the skin in a lighter, but still dark tone grey. I might try just putting some nuln oil as a wash over the first step next time instead.
3) attempting to bring the skintone back to a whiter shade:
4) As I was unsure if I would bring it up further I started on the only color I'd put into my scheme: YELLOW. I'm pleased with the result!
5) After looking at the model (picture in step 4) I put it up on fb asking the community for a 'yay or nay' on a brighter skintone. It was a yay after only 5 minutes so I got to this point:
6) A break. Pleased as I am until now, the danger lurks... Fear creeps up on me, I don't want to fail and mess this up. So it was time to bring in the specialist from miniwargaming: Kris Belleau.
Ever since I started painting I have loved this man. (in a non sexual way) His voice during a paintjob is relaxing, his sence of humor is ok and his love for monkeys and lube is as vast as the sea is deep. (no he's not a masons player or in love with the marbles model, I doubt he even knows of them, it is a 'way of the brush inside joke. You'll get it if you start looking at the series'
So as I was saying: I love this man! I even bought a T-shirt from him; Way of the Brush!

The painting sessions came to a full stop. I awaited the advice of the man after asking him 2 questions through e-mail.
1) How to finish the yelow cloth? (I heard yelow is hard to work with)
2) Would a blood pool as a base work? (in red? or do I use black/grey with water effects?) Or something else entirely?
I patiently await the answer and started working on another model... Scalpel.
I'll come back to bonesaw in part II!
