Game 6 - Brewers VS Fish – tournament rules in effect for Take a Breather lad

Game 6

Hello Guild Ballers,
Last week I had 2 quick games in succession of eachother, this is the second.

I played my brewers and challenged the TO of ‘Take a Breather’ to come and prep me for his tournament.  Thank you Dries Haemhouts for coming over and playing against me!  I had a blast.  Next time we’ll crack open the whiskey!!
For the 2nd game Dries asked me if I wanted to play against his Fishermen.  Not having seen them in action yet, knowing they would probably score faster than I could say ‘do you want another Duvel?’ I accepted and we had it on! (I did actually get the words out of my mouth before the game started so we had another drink)

I used this line-up:
Tapper – Scum – Hooper – Spigot – Friday – Stave

Dries’s  line-up:
Shark – Salt – Sakana – Snakeskin – Gutter – Greyscales
– Again I failed to take notes, I really need to work on this if I want to bring a more accurate report next time.

Game summary:

I think I kicked with Stave, put up Hooper closer to the middle line as bait for Gutter, who bought that play only to be barreled the turn after.  Hooper was an auto-hit bringing him KD towards my team but dragging Gutter with him.  Tapper took out Gutter quickly after that.  Then the ball came closer at the feet of Greyscales who passed to Sakana. I blocked easy passage to my goal with Spigot and Friday, he used the other flank of where they were to fly Shark overthere.  Next turn Tapper went for Shark, not killing him but pushing him back a bit and knibling away at his health.  Sakana dodged his way into Snapshot range but got knocked of his feet by Stave who had to ‘ramming speed’ Friday out of his way (also bringing her into range of Greyscales)  That was a mistake, since Greyscales used her to create enough momentum, dodge away, stand Sakana up and pass him the ball leaving enough momentum to make a snapshot out of it.  Sure, Stave was hindering the shot giving Sakana only 2 dice to score with and no momentum left to bonus time it, but still I held my breath.  Sakana missed.  Tapper finished off Shark, Scum picked up the ball after Friday went behind Tapper using ‘get over here’ on the cat.  Scum passed it to Friday and next turn Friday turned it into a goal.  8-0 for the brewers.  I doubt all my fish games will go like this…

Where I improved my game:

I knew scoring was going to be the major game-plan for the fishermen.  So I looked for the first opportunity I had to take out their disruptive player (Gutter) and tried to keep all others engaged as much as possible, preferably KD’d.  This seemded to work well.

What I need to remember :

This game was over so quickly I doubt there was anything I could’ve done differently to improve the outcome.  I do need to remember announcing ‘shadowlike’ at the beginning of the turn, since I had to ask Dries couple of times if he minded me adding the 2’’ after actually moving the model for his jog first…  Stupid me (for forgetting to do it), friendly Dries  (for allowing it)

 Thoughts about my line-up:

I liked the standard line-up just fine. Didn’t miss Mash at all.  Think I’ll leave him out till I put Esters on the table one day…  Some day… Maybe…

Overall idea of the game:

My game plan worked so well it had Dries baffled.  He had to adapt to my game and on the clock-thinking is a bit more stressfull, and harder to do than just going for what you had in mind.  I noticed I played a lot swifter this time than I played against his brewers, needing less time to think about what I’d do.  This fast play style might put off some of the opponents in a tournament.  I should try to keep it up!

See you next time Guild Ballers!
