Game 7 - Brewers VS Engineers – tournament rules in effect for Take a Breather lad
Game 7
Hello Guild Ballers,
As a last game before the tournament on Sunday 24/04/2016 I played yet
again against Tom with his Engineers.
Here’s my line-up:
Tapper – Scum – Hooper – Spigot – Friday – Stave
Tom’s line-up:
Ballista – Mainspring – Ratchet – Salvo – Velocity - Colossus
-Again no notes-
Game summary:
Brewers kicked of with Stave and put Friday and Spigot at the front,
looking to tackle the ball away from Velocity in turn 2. Ballista made the error of charging Friday
enabling Stave to barrel him into the Brewers grinding machine. All the models were in the center of the
field having fun… (well mine were).
Turn 2 goes to the engineers, but Tom fails to find a momentum-point for
Velocity to score with. So sad. Friday goes in and manages to tackle the ball
away, but is to far out for a goal-kick.
She throws some dirty knifes at Colossus, only to get her shins smashed
and getting knocked down in response .
Spigot can’t do much to help her out since Colossus and Salvo are in his
way. Tapper puts the hurt in and earns
the team 2VP through a take-out by knocking Ballista of the field into the
medic room.
Turn 3 goes to the Engineers again.
Ballista comes back on for influence reasons. Velocity Charges Friday and tackles the ball
back off her. Since I don’t have the
momentum to stand Friday up for a charge and goal-kick yet: I go for easy momentum and attack Colossus
with Hooper. Friday walks up to Velocity calls Scrum to assist her and tackles
twice to get the ball. She decides not to
go for the goal-kick (not enough influence) and Stave barrels Ratchet closer to
the cluster in the middle. For some
reason the Engineers don’t mind that Friday has the ball, Brewers save up the
momentum to take first turn next!
Turn 4 actually goes to the Brewers.
Friday shadow-likes away from Velocity and engages the KD’d
Colossus. She hits him couple of times
for the momentum generation and has a dice pool of 4 to score the goal with,
but fails… Velocity puts up nimble and
decides to take a parting blow to try and recover the ball. Scum isn’t to happy about that and (mistakes
are made) picks the hamstring result. (In hindsight this is not allowed since
it’s a character play. I should’ve gone
for the 2 DMG without getting the momentum – it didn’t matter much since
Velocity was not in range to snap the ball anyway. ) Spigot puts up times called to get himself 2’’
from the ball. Tapper goes after
Ballista again (who got barrelled in by Stave) takes him out and then goes for
mainspring. (Tom concedes at this point)
This would’ve brought the score to 6-0 for brewers with Spigot likely to
score next turn for the win (tournament only goes to 8 VP)
Where I improved my game:
Again I’ve used Ramming Speed on Stave to get him into a position where
his barrel could do what I wanted. I
also put up his heroic twice so it would deal damage, that was a first.
What I need to remember :
If I go for the footballing side I need to position Spigot better. If I go for the beat-down, I need to
position Spigot better so he can actually do something for his team. I’m not setting him up to his maximum
abilities. Sure there are times when you
need to activate a certain model to stop the opponent, but when the decision is
made to go for a take-out on a model that has already activated, take the time
to tool-up…
Thoughts about my line-up:
I like this line-up. I still don’t
use Hooper to often, but his 2’’ range is very handy. I might look at a Union model to try out
next.
Overall idea of the game:
Big thumbs up to Tom who hasn’t given up on the engineers yet. Sure he is looking to change his team and
thinks about starting Union. But he sunk
his teeth in the idea of beating brewers at least once with his line-up. I have half a mind of asking him if he wants
me to play his engineers against him one time…
I’m kind of curious how I’d do with them. Only danger is that I’ll like them and buy
the team for myself. (And as it is now I
already have all of them apart from Engineers and Alchemists)
Keep track of this blog to see my slow progress on painting them up!
(Except for my fishermen who are sent out for a commission paint-job)
See you next time Guild Ballers!
