Game 42 - Tripple F
We're back with a game report this week and we'll be covering a match between my brewers and our local pundit Robin piloting a band of Butchers.
A little birdy wispered in our pundits ear that butchers could play football. I have no idea how much the little bird is to blame for the line-up fielded across the table from me:
Fillet - Truffles - Boiler - Meathook - Shank - vBrisket
I took out Tapper for the first time since S3 kicked in:
Tapper - Scum - Hooper - Mash - Friday - Hemlocke
I fielded my players and took out some sheets of paper to take notes. But as it turns out I missed several activations and had to fill them out on my form 3-4 activations later. I found it was interupting my gameplay and am not sure if I'll keep this method alive for very long. It should give you, however, a more accurate (well) look on the game as I noted how much influence the players got.
* The Game:
After putting some terrain on the board we rolled and I chose to receive. Shank kicked the ball out and we were off.The influence goes on the players and Tapper gets 1, Scum 2, Hooper 2, Mash 1, Friday 3, Hemlocke 4. On the other side of the board Fillet gets 3, Truffles 1, Boiler 3, Meathook 1 and Shank 2 leaving 3 for vBrisket.
Turn one:
*Scum runs up the field and retrieves the ball. Sscoots back into relative safety where she passes the ball to Friday. +1MP*Meathook goes next and sprints up the field towards the fast terrain.
*Friday closes in on Meathook, after failing a pass to Hemlocke (that does snap to). She flings some dirty knives towards the butcher and lands a hit!
*vBrisket goes and doesn't want Meathook to be killed so she quick times her back to her side of the pitch.
*Mash Sprints to hide himself behind the forest.

*Shank does a where they go and sprints back to where he was, putting himself in the forest now.
*Hemlocke goes next, passes to Hooper +1MP - throws a Noxious Blast on vBrisket and also puts a Blind on her. (no, I didn't bonus time that) then she hides behind Tapper
*Boiler uses Swift Stance and doesn't want to move anywhere.
*Hooper Passes the ball to Tapper goes a bit forward and puts tough skin on his boss.
*Truffles sprints up through the fast ground towards Friday.
*Tapper Passes to Hemlocke +1MP
*Fillet tries to throw a pain circle on Hooper but the dice trip over their own laces and come up all 1's or 2's.
I win the roll off for turn 2 on +3 rolling a 5. - Clearly trying to bait one butcher in failed...
Tapper gets 4, Scum gets nothing, Hooper gets 2, Mash gets 3, Friday gets 0, Hemlocke gets 4.
Fillet gets 4, Truffles 1, Boiler 2, Meathook 3, Shank 0, vBrisket 3.
Turn two:
* Hemlocke passes to Mash who dodges forwards smelling a goal. She puts a Noxious Blast on Fillet and Truffles both affected and misses the blind on Fillet.* Shank moves up a bit blocking Mash his line directly towards the goal.
* Friday figures she can go next, since Mash has got things covered on his side of the board, she Shadowlikes away from the nasty pig walks towards the goal and calls Scum.
* Boiler throws marked target onto Helmlocke and goes to sit next to Shank to block the goalkick even more.
* Scum moves to the other side of the field
* vBrisket sprints to the center field, quick times (picture) and after the picture is taken clears her poison with the 1MP.
* Mash doesn't like the look of the goal with 3 Butchers near it. He Charges into Shank playing Steamroller - Shank uses Damage Sponge - Mash loses a die to Boiler. We put the bat into the side of Shank's head going for 4 DMG total, a KD and the 2" Push from the card. We take away some momentum out of it and use that plus the last INF to go for a shot on goal. We score a screamer and dodge away from Boiler.
The Ball lands behind Meathook after the goalkick.
* Truffles Charges Hooper knocking him down whilst still engaging Hemlocke.
* Tapper goes next to walk up to the pig KD's (triggering Sturdy) it and pushes it out of engagement with Hemlocke. Then swings again to put up commanding aura and lay some damage on the pig. The 3rd swing actually brings the pig to its knees with some Damage on top and the swing after that has the pig squealing like it should be.
* Meathook is still focused on the game plan: Kill Hemlocke. She does 5 DMG in total.
* Hooper goes up next uses True Grit and kills the pig, pushes Meathook away and heals Hemlocke up.

The Score is now 5-2 to Brewers - the ball is loose and I'm up +5 MP to roll for initiative where Robin is on +4. I get to go first again this turn.
Tapper gets 6 INF (being close to Scum), Scum gets 3, Hooper gets 2, Mash gets 0, Friday 3 and Hemlocke comes back on but gets nothing.
Fillet gets 4, Truffles gets 2, Boiler gets nothing, Meathook eats 3, Shank 1 and vBrisket 3.
Turn three:
* Tapper tries to go old school and goes all in on Fillet, we kill her and have 1 to spare. That throws Marked Target on Meathook and gives Hooper another 2 with Old Jake's. Commanding Aura is up and we can't wait to see what Hooper can do. 7-2 to Brewers.* Truffles activates retrieves the ball and kicks it in the open field towards vBrisket who can snap it to her.
* Hooper is glad Meathook didn't run, but fails to kill her.
* vBrisket Charges Hooper who defensive stances Hooper eats 1DMG and vBrisket double dodges away from him to have a shot on goal. Again the dice fail Robin. The goal fails.
* The Goalkick is resolved and Hemlocke gets the ball enabling Scum to go next on Meathook. The cat is one big murder machine. 9-2 to brewers and Meathook yells out in frustration (or was that Robin himself?)
* Shank sprints to the center of the board...
* Mash goes into Boiler to engage him with his 2" reach.
* Boiler, who got nothing moves a bit closer to Mash engaging him back. I announce Unpredictable Movement to trigger - which Robin says I can't do - at this point I don't want to start an argument, seeing the despair in Robins eyes. For him the game is over. He has lost the will to fight and wants the game to end ASAP.
* Hemlocke moves up the board with the ball, looking to finish the game.
* Friday moves in front of the goal, knowing she won't matter anymore this game.
We quickly roll for initiative and Robin asks me to finish it, he's plotting to kill the bird that told him to play football with butchers, I can see it in his eyes! Hence the tripple F... Fillet Football has Failed.
Turn Four: in a nutshell
* I activate Mash who got 3 influence to knock Boiler out of the way for Hemlocke to come in and score with the momentum he created.* no resistance comes from the butchers who move a model (Fillet) further up the field on the other side of the board.
* Hemlocke tosses Noxious Blast on Boiler after moving within scoring range (she got 4 influence), Fails to put blind on him and goes for the shot on goal, bonustimed. - This is the first time I actually hope not to miss a goalshot this much. I mean, you never want to miss, but the fun had left the room at this point. (and not only because of the way the game went for Robin, but more on that later) Hemlocke scores ending the game. 13-2 for Brewers.
Thoughts about the game in general:
Right up until the point where Tapper killed Fillet we had a nice game. From then on the spirit went out of my opponent and he couldn't motivate himself to put up much of a fight anymore, especially after failing to score right after it happened. That aside I still like Robin very much and I can understand how he felt, it isn't fun anymore when your team feels like it's not getting anywhere. Especially when some crucial dice rolls fail and the opponent seems to have magic dice.Another let down today was my absolute f** total boorish way of handling the mini's today. I'm not renown for my finesse, but today was totally over the top. At one point I was moving widgets around shank, boiler and mash to see where I could get my goal in. I was leaning over the playmat and hit a Noxious Blas AOE with my elbow whilst trying to put it down as a resting point. It flipped upwards since the weight was only on one side and I heard (rather than felt) it hit something. It touched Fillet in the arm and as such I destroyed Robin's model. I hated myself for it (and still do). I apologized several times and really felt bad. Robin must've seen this telling me it was ok, and how he was surprised it hadn't happened sooner (not with me per sé). That was nice of him, but still, I know he felt annoyed by it, or at least I would have bin in his place, so kudo's to him if he really wasn't...
Now if you know Robin you may have seen his beautifully painted Butchers... here's vBrisket (if the link to FB works that is) picture of vBrisket on FB
Yeah, I know I'm a dumb mofo-idiot.
Now snap out of it! It's in the past as is the game and I'll be having fun yet again getting bitchslapped by Robin some other time where he forgets about being silly and brings the pain train back with his butchers.
Thoughts about my line-up:
Well, I did think Tapper would play more different than he did. Maybe it was because I wasn't fighting with the butchers (who were trying to play football for once), maybe it wasn't. I'm going to give this line-up another go. I might take vSpigot instead of Friday to give him a spin as soon as he's painted up, but then again, my fingers have been itching to get Harry the Hat away from my desk and into my foambag full of Guild Ball goodness...Next few games coming up are me against one of the top players in our group (Fabian) with Masons - a game set up in our little league system. And after that I'm giving a demo with the box-set Kick Off to a new player! So stay tuned! Happy New Year, Merry Christmass and all that! Depending on how drunk I am my next post will be in 2017! (or if you're lucky and I'm sober, sooner!)
Bob Out.
