Game Report - Brewers vs Engineers

Hello Guild Ballers!

I've pulled this one out of the fridge!  I had it written up shortly after the game in early october, one of my first games against Serge Devriendt.  I just forgot it was in my mailbox waiting to be posted on here...

As it happens he was whining about me not putting up match reports against him earlier today...
Just his luck I guess, I started cleaning out my mailbox and stumbled upon this mail that said: 'Copy and Paste'  I start reading it and low and behold!  A match report!

So here we go!

 Report:

Brewers receive the ball, Mash collects and passes it down the line attempting to get the ball to Friday.  She looks for an opening through the engineer defenses, but there is no opening in their defences.  With the ball on the left side of the field now all engineers bar Hoist are going that way. 




 Friday tries to make it towards the right side of the field with the ball.  Engineers close in and focus their attention on getting the ball.  Ballista is able to scoop it up and punt it in! 4-0 to Engineers.  A gust of wind blows the ball to where the brewers don't want it.  Friday scoops it up but can't deliver the ball anywhere safe, she punts it up field, hoping to scoop it up next turn.

Meanwhile Tapper and Scum are working on Colossus, they leave him hanging to take him out next turn, hoping to get an activation advantage over the Engineers. 4-2  is the result early next turn, not a good comeback, since Colossus, coming back on, was able to get to the ball before Friday.


In the Scrum almost all players get hit by a couple of blast earths, the cat gets the worst of it and dies under the rubble next activation by a loving engineer that puts her out of her misery 5-2.

With Colossus out of the picture near the scrum the brewers turn their attention to the Captain. Ballista shows great resilience and gets healed up plenty.

Having the ball in their posession the Engineers press on and score again. 9 - 2.

All brewers feel the pressure, they try to keep the ball away from the engineers as best they can while activating the murderpit tactics.  

Eventually Ballista dies 9 - 4, followed by Ratchet, 9 - 6.   Scum worked the ball up field and dropped it on Spigot after Collossus fails to roll 5's on the cat.

Mother sees it and nest markers her way up to Spigot, she steals the ball off him.  Spigot doesn't like that and stomps on the spider, tackling the ball and bringing her HP down.  Still; The danger is real, Engineers can get to the ball, Spigot, in posession needs to score ASAP or risk losing the ball and consequently the game.  Brewers need to pull of a goal and murder another engineer in the activation after - Engineers can't counterscore in one activation, but they have the momentum to do it in 2! -

Spigot goes, Mother is in the brewer's way, he stomps on her: 9 - 7 kicks the ball a little in front of him to take a parting blow by Hoist, thus preventing a tackle.  The kick fails as Hoist is engaging him, no reroll on the scatter!  If the dice keep rolling this way, he'll miss the goal too! At least we're a bit lucky, it doesn't bounce far... Spigot takes the parting blow, scoops up the ball and puts it in the goal: 9 - 11.

The goal kick lands on Colossus, he works his way forward and passes it to Harriet after an unexpected arrival.  Lucky for the brewers there's a lot of terrain in the way and they don't get pushed out too far.


Here it is: the epic scene, Engineers on one momentum, Colossus on 13 HP.  Tapper loaded up with tactical advice from the cat activates with 6 INF and goes in on Colossus.  Colossus, forgetting his team needs the momentum to score, declares a counter attack.  Tapper goes for knockdown.  Swings again, activating commanding aura and does damage in the other 4 swings!  Tapper?! What are you doing?!  Use that momentum to wrap brother!!  - He's not, leaving Colossus on 1HP.

By the skin of his teeth Tapper didn't give the game away...  He Old Jake's the cat and stands Stave up who got shot earlier.

Harriete, can't score since the Engineers gave up their momentum (Bad Colossus) Hoist activates, swings a couple of times to generate momentum and replicates the unexpected arrival and pushes Tapper out;  Scum is pushed against an obstruction and Stave is shoved away.  The momentum is used to heal Colossus up to 5HP but leaving him KD'd.  Engineers are back on the goal scoring train to end the game next activation.

Murder kitty for the win!  She jumps out and charges Colossus wrapping to hit momentous 2 Damage 3 times and is close enough for the aura on tapper: just enough damage to bring the machine down a second time! 9 - 13.

A sigh of relief escapes me...  what a come back!  Brewers win!!


Sidenote:

As you can see I won this game by the skin of my teeth.  Playing against Serge is almost always like that. (I mean: very close games that are won by the dude that makes the least mistakes. Almost, since the first time I played him I had no idea how good he was and he just walked over me with ratcatchers...  I pretend I've forgotten about that every time I see his pesky grin...
